TotalEnergies MS Namibia: 40 years and more!

On 28th May 2021, Total, changed its name to TotalEnergies as part of its strategy and journey to becoming a broad energy company that is committed to producing and providing more affordable, reliable, and clean customer solutions.

TotalEnergies has been present in Namibia since 1964 through its Marketing and Services affiliate. In 2022, the Exploration & Production branch was established in Windhoek.

In 2023, TotalEnergies Marketing Namibia (Pty) Ltd Retail network expanded to 43 service stations, with additional projects in progress. The company is supplied by two main depots located in Windhoek and Walvis Bay. TotalEnergies is the 4th largest fuel distributor in the country. Within the business landscape, TotalEnergies Marketing Namibia supplies service station owners, small and large businesses, agricultural sector, and holds a significant market share in the mining industry by supplying Hydrocarbons to major mines in the country. 

TotalEnergies Exploration & Production Namibia

In 2022, the Company set up its Exploration & Production affiliate, TotalEnergies EP Namibia in Windhoek.  

TotalEnergies operates two offshore exploration licenses in the Orange basin: Blocks 2912 and 2913B. Block 2913B covers approximately 8,215 km² in deep offshore Namibia. TotalEnergies is the operator with a 40% working interest, alongside QatarEnergy (30%), Impact Oil and Gas (20%) and NAMCOR (10%).   

In February 2022, TotalEnergies has made a significant discovery of light oil with associated gas on the Venus prospect, located in block 2913B in the Orange Basin, offshore southern Namibia.   

Since then, appraisal operations are on going to assess the commerciality of this discovery.  

In 2024,TotalEnergies signed an agreement to acquire from Impact Oil and Gas Namibia (Pty) Ltd (“Impact”) an additional 10.5% participating interest in block 2913B and an additional 9.39% participating interest in block 2912, both operated by TotalEnergies in Namibia.
